Around the turn of the century Charles Rollins Bunting, great grandfather of the current Buntings, purchased the property where the Angler Restaurant is currently located. The elder Bunting and his five sons began a small fishing business. Soon they needed more space to run their fishing business and were issued the first Ocean City dock permit. When the dock was completed, it became a favorite attraction for locals and tourists to watch fish being weighed in.

Years later, the five sons went off to pursue their own careers. In the winter of 1934, the eldest son, William, returned to Ocean City and built a small building where he sold fishing bait, sodas, and rented small boats. His wife, Louise started selling homemade pies. Eventually they were serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Small tables were placed in the fishing office and a business venture had begun.

After World War II, a new dock and addition were built because of storm damage. William and Louise’s only son, William Porter and his wife Martha joined the family business. Bill Jr. and Martha had two daughters, Julie and Jayne. They, in the family tradition, are now managing the business.
